Annandale Distillery

Established 1836, Reborn 2014.

Annandale distillery was established in 1835 and is due to re-open late 2014, after a 90 year sleep. In April 2007, David Thomson and Teresa Church formed the Annandale Distillery Company Ltd and bought the land and buildings associated with Annandale Distillery from a local farmer.

Prior to 2007 there had been four eras in the life of Annandale Distillery:

  • 1st Whisky Era:  George Donald (1830-1883)
  • 2nd Whisky Era:  John Gardner (1883-1893)
  • 3rd Whisky Era:  Johnnie Walker (1893-1924)
  • 1st Farming Era: Robinson Family (1924-2007)

The distillery is starting to build a register for people that may be interested in buying a cask of our 2015 productions, joining this register will mean you are kept up to date about cask sales and latest information.

The Chancellor of the Exchequer has his Day in Islay

White Hart HotelIt was a cold and bleak frosty morning in early September 2012 when we boarded the MV Finlaggan on route from Kennacraig on West Loch Tarbert to Port Ellen. Kennacraig is located just south of the pretty fishing village of Tarbert on the Kintyre Peninsula. Two and a half hours later we disembarked at Port Ellen. With a hire car (Volvo 4 Wheel Drive) we headed to the White Hart Hotel situated right on the misty sea to drop off our bags. Known as the “hidden treasure” with a most rustic restaurant with a roaring open fire and a bar which boasted virtually every single malt release from each of Islay’s 8 distilleries. Right opposite the closed Port Ellen Distillery. (more…)
